Grid worries amp up as Vic to unleash more renewables

Victoria is set for a fresh wave of wind and solar farms thanks to a move by the state government to test interest in building another 600 megawatts of capacity, further stoking worries among energy users about the impact on power prices and on a grid already under stress.

The process, which follows the state’s 928MW renewable energy tender just two years ago, will also explore interest among businesses to buy renewable power alongside the government, said Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio.
