As Head of Co-Investments, Mike brings over 25 years’ of experience in financial markets, with an extensive career in both asset management and institutional banking. Mike is also involved in both investment sourcing and analysis, where his unique multi-asset class skill set is most valuable.
Prior to joining Merricks Capital in 2017, Mike worked for Deutsche Bank in Sydney where, post-GFC, he transitioned from equities into credit, leading cross-capital structure analysis and sales. Concurrently, Mike worked closely with the leveraged debt capital markets, structured finance and banking divisions to both originate sponsor led capital markets transactions and syndicate risk.
In 1998, he co-founded Blackfin Capital in New York, a family office sponsored fund management business, where he managed a multi-asset class, event-driven hedge fund, before returning to Australia in 2003.
Mike began his career in 1993, as a proprietary equity trader for Bankers Trust Company in London, where he managed a portfolio of Asia focussed special situations investments, before transferring with them to New York in 1995.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Economics and Commerce, with an Honours degree in Finance, from the University of Melbourne.
